The Cosmicflow Project

Mapping out the 3D structure of the local Universe

The Project

The Cosmicflow-2 project is a compilation of distances and peculiar velocities for over 8000 galaxies in the local Universe. The distances from different distance measures are calibrated and put in the same zero-point and the same scale. The database is the most complete description of the structure of our local Universe.

Accurate TRGB distance through near IR

The Tip of the Red Giant Branch method can measure distances to external galaxies at ~10% accuracy. I calibrated the TRGB method with Hubble near infrared filters. The near infrared light is less attenuated by the interstellar dust. With the near infrared TRGB method, we can probed galaxies and structure of the local Universe behind the dusty Galactic plane.
